A common barrier to help is often lack of ways to verify the legitimacy of organizations.
I have worked in some capacity with the following organizations and have a positive opinion of the effectiveness and proper allocation of donations of the following:
- Teach for India (Teaching slum children at government schools in India)
- Robinhood Army (divert excess food from restaurants/food establishments to the homeless)
- Girls Talk Math (Math summer camp at University of Maryland ad University of North Carolina for high school girls). Here's my talk at the Girls Talk Math Summer Camp 2018.
- Youth Ki Awaaz (Activism and Citizen Journalism)
- Big Brother Big Sister (Mentorship program in the USA)
- The Smile Foundation (grassroot initiatives for underprivileged families in Africa)
- Children's Aid Society (Supports and rehabilitates single children found begging/ lost / homeless)
- Make A Difference (MAD) (combat exploitation of kids in orphanages/shelters in India)
They are constantly looking for help in different ways. Any contribution, however big or small, of any form, is always appreciated. If you are interested in being involved in any capacity and want to hear more, please check out their websites or get in touch with me, and I will put you in contact with the right people.
I am also the outreach secretary of the Women in Network Science scientific committee. I host a fun women in science podcast, check it out!
